There is an answering service in Munich (and throughout Bavaria) to connect you with medical attention after normal business hours. (The hours that the answering service is available vary somewhat from city to city, but generally covers evenings and weekends).
Most likely, you will need to be able to explain your medical problem to the operator in German. If you are unable to provide the necessary information in German, find a neighbor or friend who can help you. After describing your problem and giving your address, the service dispatches an on-call physician in your area to your home. The doctor is equipped to provide you with basic care and advice.
We have used this service on two occasions. One time was at 2:00 in the morning. In both instances, a doctor arrived at our home within 45 minutes of the call.
Note: This service should not be used in case of emergencies. In case of medical emergency, dial 112.
Phone: 01805-19 12 12
Phone calls are charged at 14 cents/min by Deutsche Telekom.

The pediatric dental practice of Dr. Pfau, Dr. Butz, and M. Baltes, in Schwabing, is designed to make children comfortable. The waiting room is very friendly and inviting, with toys to play with and an indoor jungle gym and slide to climb on. The main philosophy of the practice is to provide excellent dental care and support for dental hygiene while making a trip to the dentist a non-frightening experience. The dentists go out of their way to explain to the children what to expect. They even have a stuffed gorilla with a full set of teeth that they use as a model to explain how the dentist will look into the child’s mouth. Children are encouraged to play with the gorilla and even check its teeth for the dentist. After the exam, the child is given a token which they can use to obtain a small prize from the prize machine.
At least one of the doctors, Dr. Butz, is fluent in English, as are several of the assistants.
Appointments are available during the week, and also on Saturday.
The website is very informative and is in both English and German.

Dr. Christian Muehe and Dr. Karl Kugler have a very nice practice in Schwabing. It is in a new office so everything is bright and cheery. They have a pleasant waiting room for the kids with toys to play with. Both doctors speak excellent English and are very good with kids. Several of the receptionists speak very good English as well, making it much easier to make an appointment.

Dr. Stephan Boese-O-Reilly speaks very good English. He is very patient and willing to take the time to answer your questions. They have two waiting rooms, one for children who are ill, and one for children who are there for check-ups. I’m not sure how well people follow that guideline, but it is nice to think that you could bring your child in for a check-up without exposing him to a lot of cold and flue germs.
